The story behind this song is always difficult to announce tastefully at performances. Following some minor dental surgery to remove a ruptured salivary gland from my lip - something known as a mucocele - I was unable to play the saxophone for a short period of time. The first time I picked up my horn post-surgery, I came up with the opening riff of this song, which I then developed into a 12-bar blues in the key of G-flat. "Blues for a Ruptured Salivary Gland" seemed a bit too wordy a title, so I came up with "Blucocele".
