Every summer during my youth my family would make a trek north to Schroon Lake, NY. We'd spend two weeks at a rented cabin relaxing in the Adirondacks . As time went on, my parents continued the yearly pilgrimage, but my brother and I went on with our own lives, which rarely included trips to the lake. Recently I took my future wife to Schroon Lake for a few days. It was amazing to see how much had remained the same over the years. Sure, some things had changed, but because so many aspects of what I remembered from my childhood remained, the area took on a timeless quality in my mind.
